Search engine optimization (SEO) is an internet marketing technique used by businesses and individuals to ensure that their websites are visible on search engines like Google.

It can improve traffic, leads, conversion rates, branding, etc. There are two parts to SEO: On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO.

On-Page SEO refers to all those things you do on your website or within your control to increase its search engine visibility.

Off-Page SEO refers to all those things you do outside of your website or within someone else’s control (like social media) to increase its search engine visibility.

The goal with both types of SEO is for a search engine like Google to find and list your site in response to searches made by people looking for something related to what you offer.

If your site isn’t listed, you don’t get traffic. If you don’t get traffic, it doesn’t matter how great your products or services are because no one will ever know about them.

How Do Search Engines Work? Google SEO

For those of you who are unfamiliar with how search engines work, I’ll break it down for you.

When a user types in a keyword or series of keywords into a search engine’s search bar, that query is sent through a complex algorithm that identifies websites and pages relevant to those keywords.

The results are then ranked by order of most likely relevance and published back to users.

It sounds simple enough, right? It should be—but there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye.

Search engines have come a long
way since their inception in 1989

Today, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives—and businesses can use them to their advantage if they know what they’re doing.

What Can You Control?

Search engine optimization or SEO, is defined as the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s unpaid results.

Simply put, it’s about ranking higher in Google and similar search engines for keywords that are relevant to your business and increase traffic to your site.

That being said, there are two very important things you should know about SEO: What can you control? And what can’t you control?

The first part is easy—you can control how many high-quality links you have pointing to your site, whether they’re from other sites or social media platforms.

The second part isn’t so easy—you can’t affect how Google ranks search results (yet). But don’t worry!

Where Should I Start My SEO Campaign|Seo marketing

One of the most important steps in search engine optimization is identifying keywords that your target audience will use when searching for a solution to their problem.

This step takes patience and understanding—what one customer may search for, another won’t.

A good place to start is by looking at data from Google Analytics on how your website visitors are finding you, including their search terms and geographic location.

From there, you can craft a strategy based on what people are searching for and where they live.

If you want to get technical about it, tools like Moz Pro or Ahrefs can help identify which search queries have historically led to conversions so that you can prioritize them in your campaign.

But keep in mind: Just because someone searches how do I unclog my toilet? doesn’t mean they’re ready to buy plumbing supplies online!

How Long Does It Take to See Results from My SEO Efforts?

When it comes to SEO, you can’t just flip a switch and expect results—even when it comes to on-page optimization.

Most SEOs say it takes time for major search engines like Google and Bing to index your site.

somewhere between one month and six months is normal, depending on how much effort you put into your backlink campaign.

The upside is that once you start seeing organic search traffic, Google will continue sending visitors as long as your pages stay optimized.

So what does all of that mean? Simply put: you need to be patient if you want to see results from your SEO efforts.

But don’t worry—it won’t take years before search engines notice your efforts. It may not even take weeks or months.

You should get some kind of indication that your website has been indexed by search engines within three to four weeks of making initial changes to your site, with continued growth in search engine traffic after that point.

I Am New to Search Engine Optimization What Should I Do First?: If you are new to SEO, there are a few things you should do first.

Are There Any Exceptions To The Rules?

Google SEO google may be king, but there are exceptions.

Here’s where search engines like Bing and Yahoo still hold power, and how you can use them effectively in your marketing plan.

This is also a good time to remind ourselves that we shouldn’t take search engine optimization too seriously—it’s not an exact science, after all.

It doesn’t hurt to have fun with it! The goal of search engine optimization should always be to help people find what they need.

I think one of my favorite SEO quotes comes from Google itself: If you're not having fun doing it, don't do it. Well said, Googlers. Well said.
